What I Learned from Digital Cable

The liner notes on MusicChoice channels offer a few interesting blurbs per song, sort of like the short-lived but influential "pop-up video" sensation that now lives on in shows like AMC's Much More Movie. Today I learned that the Gin Blossoms' hit "Til I Hear It From You" was co-written by Marshall Crenshaw.

I've also learned that when MTV2 stopped playing videos and became all gameshows and reality tv, the videos all went to digital-only channels like Fuse, MTVHits, VH1Classic, VH1MegaHits, and VH1Country. I'm not kidding. Seriously, there are actually six different VH1 channels, including VH1Soul and VHUno. VH1Classic's show "The VH1 Classic Alternative" is the standout thus far with this description: the best of alternative from the '70's and 80's. Tune in for alt favorites like The Cure, The Smiths, and Echo and the Bunnymen.

[This post rambled on for a while about (admittedly bad but) old school videos vs. new booty-shakin' dreck, and how I like videos but agree with my wife that we don't want our boys seeing this trash, but you've been spared.]
