Debate: Flashback to age 11

Remember back in grade school or junior high, when the student body election candidates got to address the assembly of students? Last night Kerry's constant vapid promises and vacous assertions of his prowess reminded me of the kid-candidates who struck popular notes by promising such improvements as "colder water in the drinking fountains." Big cheer.*

By the time the assembly was dismissed, most of us realized that they were only so many words, never to be realized. But we were glad the kid said it, in a way, sort of standing up (ever so slightly, and our own little way) sticking it to The Man. OUR VOICES WILL BE HEARD! It was a vapor of a victory. But it appealed to our adolescent minds.

Flash forward to the Kerry campaign and those drinking the Democratic Kool-Aid. Yep. Mm-hmm.

*(it was Arizona, after all -- your childhood geography may require an alternate infeasability)
