Hugh is considering new designs for his site (finally!). None of them seem that exciting, but I suppose Sample 1 is the best (for fun, try to figure out the difference between Sample 1 and Sample 3. What's that? That isn't fun to you?).
But I am puzzled that he hasn't considered bright yellow in any of his designs.
(By the way, I have noticed some conservatives starting to embrace the color red, from the famed red-state, blue-state maps. I oppose this. In the first place, the main stream media just chose those colors because red was the color of communism, and so assigning it to the Democrats might, uh, color voter perceptions. Second, red still is the color of communism. And third, I don't much like red. I say in 2008, the Republicans should have a new color. How about bright yellow?)

It's the color of Senator Mark Dayton, Moonbat of Minnesota.
Now baby-puke greenish-yellow is another story all together.

Lileks
Lilek's design is good, but that smirk of Hugh's. Yikes!
Posted by: JamesPh. at January 25, 2005 12:23 PMMaybe we should try the color teal, or sierra, something a little pompous.
Posted by: Marty Andrade at January 25, 2005 02:33 PMMaybe they go out and hire a professional designer? Just a thought.

That's not true. They use a strict system (dating back to 1976) where the color of the incumbent party alternates each year. Over the past two elections (2004 and 2000), the incumbent party has also changed so that the parties kept the same color, but back in 1996, the Democrats were red and the Republicans were blue. Red and blue were chosen because (a) they're on the U.S. flag and (b) they look different even on black-and-white TVs (which were still common in 1976).
Here's the party color assignments dating back to 1976, based on the party that was the incumbent in each election:
1976 Republican Blue
1980 Democratic Red
1984 Republican Blue
1988 Republican Red
1992 Republican Blue
1996 Democratic Red
2000 Democratic Blue
2004 Republican Red
That's interesting, but I'm interested to see if it changes next election. The last two elections have generated so much hype about "Red states" and "Blue states" that I'm guessing the MSM will have to grapple with just leaving things the way they are indefinitely.
Posted by: RobbL Monkey at January 27, 2005 08:42 PMThanks, Alex. Now that you mention it, I do remember seeing different colors on those maps.
I still say bright monkey yellow would be better now--especially on those new fangled high definition TVs.
