President Bush delivered a fine, but far from immortal, State of the Union Address on Tuesday. A bit too Wilsonian in places for my liking, although his discussion of domestic policy inspired fewer thoughts of suicide than usual. I believe the President is employing new writers. Smart move.
But I am not interested so much in praising President Bush, as in burying the Democrats. And they make it so easy. For what did I discover in my electronic mailbox a few minutes ago? Why, it's a letter from Howard Dean!
Remember this? "The British Government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa."Those are George Bush's famous 16 words from his 2003 State of the Union address, delivered less than two months before he sent troops into war in Iraq.
They were false. Three years later Americans are still demanding answers on the manipulation of intelligence by an administration eager to start a war.
Americans have a lot of questions that went unanswered tonight.
Right. Because the American people are stuck on Joe Wilson, Valerie Plame, and anything else controversial in 2003.
It's a funny letter. Obviously written before so much as the prepared text of the speech was released.
I would be remiss, of course, if I failed to mention that the e-mail was "Paid for and authorized by the Democratic National Committee, www.democrats.org. This communication is not authorized by any candidate or candidate's committee." Thank goodness for that!
