Oh My God! They Killed Chef!

Is Isaac Hayes a punk, or what?

Isaac Hayes Quits 'South Park' Over 'Bigotry'
Outspoken Scientologist Upset With Show's Depiction of Religion
By ERIN CARLSON, AP

NEW YORK (March 13) - Isaac Hayes has quit "South Park," where he voices Chef, saying he can no longer stomach its take on religion.

Hayes, who has played the ladies' man/school cook in the animated Comedy Central satire since 1997, said in a statement Monday that he feels a line has been crossed.

A line? Crossed? He is talking about South Park, right?

"There is a place in this world for satire, but there is a time when satire ends and intolerance and bigotry towards religious beliefs of others begins," the 63-year-old soul singer and outspoken Scientologist said.

Geez, he sounds like a Muslim.

"Religious beliefs are sacred to people, and at all times should be respected and honored," he continued. "As a civil rights activist of the past 40 years, I cannot support a show that disrespects those beliefs and practices."

Not like showing a Catholic Priest Boo-Foo'ing someone in the confessional, huh Chef?

"South Park" co-creator Matt Stone responded sharply in an interview with The Associated Press Monday, saying, "This is 100 percent having to do with his faith of Scientology... He has no problem - and he's cashed plenty of checks - with our show making fun of Christians."

I might add that Kyle's family seems a little, well, "stereotypically Jewish" as well.

Last November, "South Park" targeted the Church of Scientology and its celebrity followers, including actors Tom Cruise and John Travolta, in a top-rated episode called "Trapped in the Closet." In the episode, Stan, one of the show's four mischievous fourth graders, is hailed as a reluctant savior by Scientology leaders, while a cartoon Cruise locks himself in a closet and won't come out.

Stone told The AP he and co-creator Trey Parker "never heard a peep out of Isaac in any way until we did Scientology. He wants a different standard for religions other than his own, and to me, that is where intolerance and bigotry begin."

Wow. That sounds like it could've been in a New York Times or Washington Post editorial about the Danish cartoon controversy. Yeah, when monkeys fly outta my butt.

"Screw you CHef, I'm going home!"

ha damn.. thought the whole episode was funny for the most part but... damn yo, did they have to take the 'death' that far? i have more horror movies [than you], i've seen really graphic issht on the internet [like you] and found almost every southpark episode funny and intelligent, but chefs death disturbed me [just a little] concidering i've known the charactor since i was in the fifth grade... i mean damn did they have to set him on fire, have him fall down rocks, be impaled by a [tree?], get ripped apart, shot, rip his face off, and give him such a sissy scream and sad face? guess trey an matt were just [i]that[/i] pissed at hayes... i get the entire metaphore peice by peice tho... even the 'his leaving 'good' for the 'dark side' part at the end.... funny show but still, w/ the death of chef... deeyam, children...

an i dunno why your gonna pick sides on a debate that has nothing to do w/ you... HUGE trey parker fan, even tho he is a short and needlessly arrogant butt-hole... we dont know anything but what the false media outlet tells us, for all we know chef could of verbally and confidentally expressed his opinion to trey and trey [knowing him] was like 'yea yea whatever fuck off cash your check" so i'm mutual... and never found a southpark episode offensive and found the people who do riduculous, but this one rubbed me the wrong way in the last 8 minuites, trey and matt shoulda just let him go gracefully instead of acting like their views were holier than thou.... as they usually do.

I totally agree with their actions. Scientology is a stupid money scam that brainwashes people, and if you don't believe me just go to wikipedia and check out their beliefs. You'll love the part abou Xenu... Anyway, I believe they wanted to make no mistake that CHEF was no longer the same character and wanted to make it VERY clear. This way, they don't even have to use the same voice with Darth CHEF (aka Iron Chef as he was called).

Everyone seems to love taking stabs and Christianity (even when it makes no real sense), but Scientology is quick to stiffle critics (check their history).

Read "Scientology attacks free speech."

Oh, and read this for info on Xenu:

I'm sorry, but if you believe this then you're a moron.

ooh i'm well aware of how ridiculous scientology is, and everybody involved that i've had the oopertunity to observe seems completely nuts. I havent read those two places you named but i'm rather interested in this [cult rather than a religion] and i did read some crazy issht about how hayes didnt even quit but a scientology representative quit for him [??], most likely a rumor, tho the tom cruise threats are rather humerous too, tho i heard the story behind them.... seems like scientology has alot of money and are resorting to behind-the curtain nazi-ish tactics to preserve themselves... and from what i do know of the group their 'beliefs' are... fvkkin weird.
