Cruel Dénouement

That's the headline over at zidane.fr where there's no hiding the fact the Zinedine "Zizou" Zidane made a fool of himself and shamed France with his headbutt of an Italian player in overtime of the World Cup final. He got a red card to leave what he had announced would be his final game, recollecting the great moment in an otherwise average Billy Crystal movie, "Forget Paris," where Crystal plays a basketball referee in a player's final game:

Mickey: You're out of here, Jabbar!
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar: Are you nuts? It's my farewell game.
Mickey: Well then, let me be the first to say farewell.
It was sweet to see France lose, even if (as I do) you find much of soccer (the fake injuries, the penalty kicks) to be silly. Yes, forget Paris. Farewell, Zizou.

Feh...

The French had a solo breakaway stage win (first this year) in the Tour de France earlier today, so it wasn't a completely lost day for them.

Much as I enjoy any French humiliation, I read on a couple of sites that the Italian player gave "Zizou" a titty twister shortly before the head butt.

(If we were a Townhall blog, I couldn't say "titty twister." Twice.)

Well, you've probably seen the tape by now, although I don't know if they show the whole sequence. The Italian had his arm around Zidane, and if anything, he just gave him a pinch. You know those Italians.
But a head but from a world class soccer player is not trivial. Those guys hit with a lot of force.
Anyway, it's a remarkable thing to shame yourself in front of the whole world like that.

Actually, I hadn't seen the video. If you're like me, you can see it here.

What kind of weird-ass game are they playing in that clip, anyway? Somebody on another site claimed that it's football, but I don't see any pads or helmets.

Bizarre.

And when did Henry Rollins become a ref?
