The Pledge?

Um. Ah. Um.

Okay, how about this pledge:

"I will not contribute to any Republican Senator. Or Congressman. Or candidate for any political office. Except maybe for Ron Paul."

Yes, much better.

That would more accurately read:

"I will not contribute to any Republican Senator. Or Congressman. Or candidate for any political office. Except maybe throw my hard earned money away by contributing to a do-nothing Congressman who will not accomplish anything meaningful by the name of Ron Paul."

Or I can pledge to spend my money on funny sounding band names like Monkey RobbL.

If a candidate for office promised to go to Washington and literally do NOTHING, they would absolutely get my vote and might even get some of my money. Ron Paul goes one better, though - he shows up, and votes "no" on almost everything.

Of course, "Dr. No" doesn't need my money. He gets re-elected handily each election. In fact, I don't think the Democrats have even bothered to field a candidate in his district for the last couple of cycles. The second-place candidate this last cycle was a Libertarian who got around 13% of the vote, if I remember correctly.

I like Ron Paul. He's wrong on the war, but he's right about most everything else. Truth is, the Republicans are lost. They stand for little. They do not know what they believe. It's an odd time to be alive. In any event, we can say that whatever George W. Bush's legacy will be, it won't be in the same line as the legacy of Ronald W. Reagan.
