We have to be right 100% of the time, the bad guys, only once. Besides, the Constitution is not a suicide pact.

How many times have I heard that one? It can be used to excuse virtually any abuse of power you'd like, as long as you cloak it in language about "security." But as long as we're trotting out the cliches, how about one that has stood the test of time:

"Give me liberty, or give me death."
